About AG&SS

We stage performances of our chosen Gilbert & Sullivan operetta at Yeadon Town Hall, Tuesday to Saturday during the second week of February. We rehearse every Thursday night (7.30pm – 10.00pm) from mid-September, and every Saturday afternoon (2.00pm – 5.00pm) in January. Rehearsals are held at Menston Methodist Church.

Between February and September we meet occasionally to rehearse for concert performances. Concerts are given several times a year. Aireborough Gilbert & Sullivan Society was founded in 1957 by Mrs Eileen Mackay for the scholars at Aireborough Grammar School to perform Gilbert & Sullivan shows for the enjoyment of the public. To be in the Society now, it is no longer necessary to have been a scholar at Aireborough Grammar School. Membership is open to all who enjoy performing the works of Gilbert & Sullivan. We currently have about 40 members who perform in our shows, and another 10 who join us for concert performances. We are normally able to cast our soloists from within the Society’s membership.

Our annual show is performed for fundraising purposes. The Society is a registered charity (Charity No 702034) and one of our main aims is to raise as much money as we can for local charities from the profits of our productions.
